Harris Hill are delighted to be recruiting for a part time teacher of Drama to join a wonderful all girls’ through school in North London, from January (0.4 timetable) until July 2020 (fixed term position)

Person Specification

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and committed practitioner to join a very successful and dynamic department. We are seeking to appoint a full time/part time teacher of Drama to work in a busy and highly successful department teaching throughout the School, including GCSE (Eduqas WJEC), A level (Edexcel) Drama & Theatre. The applicant should have an excellent understanding and broad knowledge of theatre practice and theory, covering a range of practitioners, styles and traditions from different cultures and eras.

The ability to direct extra-curricular productions is also vital. The department has a successful tradition of including large numbers of students in its extra-curricular programme in challenging, varied and entertaining work which is produced to a very high standard.

 The ability to direct performances both within and outside the curriculum.

 Excellent organisational skills.

 An ability to remain calm, a good sense of humour and the necessary enthusiasm to enjoy challenges, are essential.

 

Line Management

The Teacher of Drama reports to the Director of Drama.

Main Responsibilities

 Teaching classes from Years 7-13.

 Involvement in performances both within and outside the curriculum.

 Develop schemes of work and assessment for teaching in the Drama Department.

 

The Department

There are two full time specialist teachers of Drama at the School, including the Director of Drama and a part-time Drama specialist. There are two theatre technicians and a Performing Arts secretary who works in both the Music and Drama departments.

Facilities

At present the Drama Department is housed in a suite of rooms including: two drama studios, the larger is equipped with fully computerised lighting and sound capabilities and a full-sized cinematic screen with professional standard projector which can be used to show students’ work as well as playing DVDs and computer a/v; a storage room; a props room; a wardrobe and the Drama office.

The larger studio is used for small scale productions including all examination performance work.

The Performing Arts Centre

In March 2007, the school opened its Performing Arts Centre. This outstanding facility includes a 350 seat auditorium, a flexible stage (including an orchestra pit) and professional lighting and sound facilities. Students are able to develop all the technical skills required in mounting a production and many students choose to attend enrichment classes in technical theatre.
