Harris Hill are thrilled to be recruiting for a part time, temporary teacher of Classics to join a wonderful all boys’ junior school from December 2019 until the Easter term 2020. This is an exceptional opportunity for a graduate, NQT or experienced teacher. The school offers a very competitive salary and excellent CPD.

 The Position

Classics is a strong and thriving subject and the department has three full time teachers, each with their own dedicated classroom equipped with an interactive whiteboard. The department benefits from a close relationship with the Classics department at the Senior School. The Classics programme begins in Year 5 with a lesson per week of Classical Civilisation. Latin begins in Year 6, and currently the boys have five 35 minute lessons per fortnight. The coursebook is the Oxford Latin Course. In Year 7, we welcome around 35 new 11+ pupils, for whom there is a stimulating, specially designed curriculum, to help ease the academic transfer into the senior school and foster a passion for the Classics.

The school currently is at an exciting stage in its approach to technology in the classroom. iPads have been introduced in Years 3-6. The School is actively looking into the latest technology for education. The Classics department is very excited about this opportunity and seeks to be at the forefront of these developments. While it would be impressive if a candidate already has a working knowledge of this area, what is more important is an openness to new ideas and a willingness to learn about and experiment with new technology in the classroom.

Applications are invited from well- qualified teachers of classics who would enjoy working in this high-achieving department. We are looking for a passionate classicist who has a deep commitment to communicating their enthusiasm to children.

Please email your CV to jess.green@harrishill.co.uk or call on 0207 0911 641 for an informal discussion around the post – we look forward to receiving your application!
