Maternity Cover, Teacher of Biology
This is an excellent opportunity cover a post for a teacher whilst on maternity leave at an exceptional senior school in Middlesex. The role would begin after the Easter holiday and would be a minimum of 2 terms at this school. The school is set on beautiful grounds, conveniently located to the train station (Spelthorne) and staff enjoy a competitive salary. Aims of post of responsibility:
To sustain and improve the quality of education offered to the pupils in the school through promoting the highest possible standards of education, equality of opportunity, and an environment which is conducive to excellence in learning and teaching.

To promote the ethos of the school through participation in the construction and implementation of the school development plan and in relevant curriculum committees.
Specific Responsibilities
GENERAL
Plan and teach inspiring, differentiated lessons applicable to formal examination board requirements
Assess and evaluate pupils’ work
Set appropriate homework
Review and analyse own teaching performance, working closely with the Head of Department;
Monitor progress by tracking pupil data (including the use of MidYis and Sixth Form target grades) and implementing intervention strategies as appropriate;
Evaluate results in public examinations and feed back to the Head of Department;
Writing of reports, provision of subject information to parents, attendance at parents’ meetings and response to parents’ enquiries;
To implement the school’s agreed policies;
To maintain effective discipline through implementation of the school’s agreed procedures;
To get involved in and organise extra-curricular (after school) activities, including field trips and over-night stays.
To suggest and organise whole school Science programmes for certain year groups
COMMUNICATION AND MEETINGS
To liaise effectively with members of the department, senior managers, learning support and support staff;
Attend staff INSET, briefings and meetings when required
To be aware of the departmental Firefly entry and provide updates as necessary
CURRICULUM
To ensure effective teaching, professional vision and knowledge;
To plan with the team for the development of the department;
To review syllabi proposed by Awarding Bodies and ensure curriculum matches the syllabi
To develop schemes of work within the framework of the School and the requirements of examination boards, working collaboratively with the whole team;
To prepare teaching resources in collaboration with the members of the department;
To maintain sound discipline within the school’s agreed procedures;
To ensure that Health and Safety issues are properly understood and procedures followed effectively and consistently;
Trips
To run Field Trips as directed by the Head of Department

Qualifications
Good degree
QTS or PGCE
A professional qualification for Science skills/ knowledge
Production of the applicant’s certificates
Experience
Experience of teaching Biology in previous school to GCSE and A Level standard
Experience of being a Form Teacher
